Chiang Kai-shek Shilin residence

The Shilin residence was built in 1947 and completed a year later. It was Chiang Kai-shek’s residence for over twenty-six years. It was officially open to the public in 1996. The residence has oriental and western style gardens containing bridges, streams, landscapes, and willows. The buildings include the main building, Victory chapel, Xinlan pavilion, and the horticulture exhibition hall. From the Ciyun pavilion on the hillside you can look west at Shezi island, Tamsui river, and enjoy the Guanyin mountain sunset. Looking northward you can see Yangmingshan, Datun mountain and Cising mountain.

Taipei fine arts museum

Taipei fine arts museum was opened in 1983. It is a grand and unique structure, standing within Zhongshan arts park. The main lobby area of the museum is an amalgamation of architecture arts with the garden and natural environment, with the ceiling raised to approximately nine meters, equivalent of three stories. Using caterlever and flyover walkways, a hashtag shape is formed within, resembling the word well in Chinese, it is mean to symbolize the museum as the font of art and culture. The outer walls uses glass for maximum lighting, so that the inner courtyard can receive natural light. As the light changes with the flow of time, it displays the uniqueness of nature. Each floor has symmetrically protruding exhibition rooms that has raised or suspended ceilings, creating a space for viewing novel artworks. The outward facing observation windows also provides you with views of the surrounding sceneries in Yuanshan.

Taipei story house

Taipei story house is situated next to the Taipei fine arts museum, and stands next to Keelung river. During the Japanese occupation, a tea merchant from Taipei’s Dadaocheng, Mr. Chao-jun Chen, built the Yuanshan villa in this area between 1913-14, a western syle building in the English Tudor style, to host the local elites and overseas guests. The villa was completed in the midst of the Japanese occupation. The administration at that time wanted to establish Taipei as the political, financial and education center, and so was systematically expanding and widening Taipei streets, created a three-lane boulevard that circle the city, and introduced various European architectural styles, mixing and changing them, leading to the buildings of that time having extremely complex characters. The Yuanshan villa was built under such an influence.

National palace museum

The national palace museum is the successor of the museum that the government of the Republic of China established in the Forbidden City in Beijing on October 10, 1925. In 1933, the relices in the museum were moved south in response to the Japanese invasion, passing through Shanghai, Nanking, Anshun, Chongqing, Leshan, Emei and numerous other location. After the Sino-Japanese War ended in 1948, the relics arrived in Nanking, and the rarest items were then were moved to Taiwan due to the civil war with the communists. The national palace museum was opened on November 12, 1965 in Waishuangxi in Taipei’s Shilin district to hold world-renowned Chinese relics, including bronze, jade, pottery, lacquer wares, rare curios, calligraphy, painting, original texts and literature works. Over sixty-five thousand pieces of relics spanning seven thousand years are held at the museum.

Shilin night market

Shilin night market is situated in the triangular area between Wenlin Road and Jihe Road, It is the largest night market in Taipei and one of the most well known market in Taiwan, and overseas visitors can often been seen there. Shinlin night market used to be limited to the area directly opposite Cixian temple and the area surrounding the Wenlin Road commercial circle, but both expanded and so merged into one night market that now includes areas surrounding Wenlin Road, Tatung Road, Tanan Road and Anping Road. It has undergone several merges and reorganization to arrive at its current state.

Tamsui old street

The areas around Tamsui harbor is one of the earliest developed areas in northern Taiwan. Nearby attractions include Fort San Domingo, Hobe Fort and other monuments. Tamsui has always been an area filled with commercial activities as well as historical and cultural values. In addition to the old street, the Blue highway, reorganization of Fisherman’s wharf, and easy to reach with public transport systems, Tamsui is one of the most important tourist destination in Taipei whether it is for shopping, visiting monuments, tasting local delicacies. In particular, Tamsui old street is directly opposite the Tamsui MRT station, which is also the hub for buses to other tourist destinations. It is also a stop on the Blue highway, connecting Taipei, Bali and the north coast.

Chiang Kai-shek memorial hall

Build to pay respect and in memory of Chiang Kai-shek, the hall was completed in March 1970, and officially opened to the public on April 5. Chiang Kai-shek memorial hall is surrounded by Hangzhou South Road on the east, Zhongshan South Road on the west, Aiguo East Road on the south, and Xinyi Road to the north. It covers almost twenty-five thousand square meters with expansive open spaces and magnificent building, and is favorite destination for oversea visitors as well as the public in the greater Taipei area, whether for relaxation, gathering, or wedding photographs. Because Chiang Kai-shek memorial hall is an attraction place of Taipei, many foreigners traveled to here. This makes as an famous place in this world. In addition, the changing on the guards at the top of the hour between ten and four every day is also an attraction for the hall.
